Eurrhypis pollinalis is a ( small ) butterfly from the family of Crambidae . The species is widespread across Europe.
features
The moths reach a wingspan of 28 to 33 millimeters. Fore and hind wings are dark brown to almost black in color. On the forewings there are two large, usually somewhat elongated white spots, on the wing base there is a white line. The hind wings also have two elongated, white spots, which are smaller than the spots on the forewings. Front and rear wings are lined with white on the outer edge.
Occurrence
The species occurs in southern and central Europe. They are found widespread in warm, sunny locations in the open countryside. It rises in the mountains to over 1500 meters.
Way of life
Eurrhypis pollinalis forms two overlapping generations each year, which fly from April to August. The oligophageous caterpillars feed on various types of legumes , such as B. Gorse ( Genista ), Restharrow ( Ononis ) and goat clover ( Cytisus ). They live in tube-like corridors that extend from the plant stem to the ground.
