Eusebia (saint)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eusebia († 680 or 689) was a saint and abbess .

Eusebia was a daughter of St. Richtrudis and St. Adalbald of Ostrevant . After the murder of her father, Eusebia and her mother and two sisters entered the Benedictine convent of Marchiennes near Lille in the diocese of Arras, founded by their mother and led as abbess . Eusebia later moved to the Hamay monastery in Wandignies-Hamage , which is now part of northern France , where Adalbald's grandmother, St. Gertrudis was abbess. After Gertrudi's death in 655, Eusebia was elected abbess at the age of only twelve. Because of her childhood, Eusebia was temporarily taken in by her mother. After she returned to Hamay Monastery, she took over the post of monastery head, which she held for 23 years. Her body was later transferred to Marchiennes.

The feast day of St. Eusebia is March 16 and December 6 , respectively .
