Drosera pauciflora is a carnivorous plant belonging to the genus sundew ( Drosera ). It is native to South Africa and wasfirst describedby Joseph Banks in 1824.
description
Drosera pauciflora are herbaceous plants and grow as cup-shaped, compact rosettes with one to several short, swollen roots . The leaves are sessile and without stipules , the blade is widened, inverted ovoid, up to 2.5 centimeters long and 8 millimeters wide, tapered to the base.
The inflorescence axis is upright, leafless and up to 20 centimeters long, at its end it bears one to three large flowers . The sepals are fused, the individual lobes are up to 1 centimeter long and egg-shaped. The petals are broad, inverted egg-shaped, pink or purple, dark olive-green at the base and have a length of up to 3 centimeters.
The short stamens are flattened and slightly widened towards the top, the connective is rhombic. The stylus are bifurcated from the roots, bent upward, the scars divided fächrig, still connected in immature copies.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 40.
distribution
The species is only found in the southwestern Cape region in South Africa, it is common around Darling , Paarl and Stellenbosch , where it grows in the fynbos .
