Euxesta notata is a species from the family of flies (Ulidiidae).
features
The flies reach a body length of 3 to 4 millimeters. The lower area of the fron is reddish in color. The transparent wings have two black spots. The apical spot reaches the wing tip and crosses the wing veins R4 + 5. The basal spot begins on the anterior wing edge in front of the tip of Sc and extends to R2 + 3. The mesonotum is dark in color, the scutellum is black. The abdomen is completely dark in color in the males, while the females have a conspicuous yellow abdomen end. The femora are black. In contrast to some other species of the genus Euxesta , E. notata lacks a black spot on the head between the antennae.
distribution
Euxesta notata occurs in the Nearctic and Palearctic . The species is native and widespread in North America. Their occurrence there extends from Canada via the USA to Mexico. The species was introduced to Europe and is now widespread there.
Way of life
The maggots develop u. a. on the roots of onions, cabbage and other vegetables. The adults suck on dog feces and the like.
