The Lübbenauer Schlossmühle was a watermill in the town of Lübbenau / Spreewald in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district in Brandenburg . In November 1943 the mill was destroyed by fire.

Former location

The castle mill was initially located north of the Lübbenau castle on the Lehder Fließ . Later, its location was moved, then the Castle Mill was to fire at the Mühlspree on the bridge in the castle district at the current location of a shopping store .

history

In 1315 there was already an oil mill in the northern part of the Lübbenau castle district. In the 16th and 17th centuries the mill was at the Miller family Dalbogh in leasehold given. At the beginning of the 18th century, the castle mill was rebuilt about 250 meters south of today's Spree bridge to the castle district. For the new construction, the mill received two lower water wheels with a diameter of 5 meters and a width of 3 meters, which were attached to the western part of the half-timbered building .

In 1713 the Werner family took over the building. As a result, the mill came to Traugott Hirschberger through the marriage of the widowed Mrs. Werner . At the mill, the Spree had a gradient of 0.78 meters. During floods , the Spree, which was still unregulated at the time, regularly caused damage to the mill, which often paralyzed operations. In 1880 Maximilian zu Lynar bought the mill back and ran it himself. In 1920 the water wheels were replaced by turbines and the technology was modernized. This enabled the four millers working in the mill to process 10 tons of grain a day .

In 1930 Erich Lehmann leased the castle mill and modernized the technology further. Since then, six millers have worked there, processing between 12 and 15 tons of grain every day. The mill mainly supplied the bakeries in the area.

The castle mill burned down on November 19, 1943. The reason for the fire (technical defect, arson ) could not be clarified. The mill burned down to its foundations and was not rebuilt afterwards. In 1945, a mill was built as a replacement on a plot of land in Dammstrasse and supplied the bakeries and Spreewald farmers with grain until operations ceased in 1990.
