Eva-Maria Westbroek
Eva-Maria Westbroek (born April 26, 1970 in Belfast ) is a Dutch opera singer ( soprano ).
Life
Her father is the well-known emeritus geology professor Peter Westbroek, who taught at the University of Leiden . She studied singing at the Conservatory in The Hague and deepened her education through masterclasses with the American tenor James McCray . The soprano made her debut at the Aldeburgh Festival as Mére Marie in Francis Poulenc's opera Conversations of the Carmelites . This was followed by guest engagements in Novi Sad, Skopje, Riga, Coburg and at the Teatro Manzoni in Rome and at the Komische Oper Berlin. On the latter stage she sang a. a. Elisabeth in Don Carlos and Chrysothemis in Elektra .
From 2001 to 2006 Eva-Maria Westbroek was a permanent member of the Stuttgart State Opera. There she sang the title role in Tosca , Carlotta in Die Gezeichen , Desdemona in Verdi's Otello , Donna Anna in Don Giovanni , Marie in The Bartered Bride and Giulietta in Hoffmann's stories . In August 2006 the artist was appointed chamber singer of the Stuttgart State Opera.
During her time in Stuttgart, the soprano a. a. to the opera houses of Paris, Amsterdam, London, Dresden and Salzburg. In 2008 she made her debut in Bayreuth as Sieglinde in Die Walküre and as Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow in Milan. In spring 2009 she sang the title role in Jenůfa by Leoš Janáček at the Munich State Opera . Since September 2010 she sings Leonore in Verdi's La forza del destino by Giuseppe Verdi at the Vienna State Opera . Since February 2011 she has played the leading role as Anna Nicole Smith in the opera Anna Nicole by British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage at London's Royal Opera House in Covent Garden , which was enthusiastically received by critics.
The artist is married to the tenor Frank van Aken .
