Eva Burgeff

Eva Burgeff born, Kerckhoff (* 1920 in Brilon ; † 1999 in Borken , Westphalia ) was a German metal sculptor. She lived and worked in Cologne .

life and work

After graduating from high school in Soest in 1939, she learned the craft of sculpting (wood carving, stone carving, modeling, drawing) in the studio of the sculptor Walter Mellmann in Osnabrück . When Mellmann was drafted in World War II, she initially continued to work in his studio. In 1943 she had to interrupt her professional training by doing military service in the hospital and in a doctor's office. In 1946 she resumed her training in Mellmann's workshop and worked for a time in her sister Ruth Landmann's ceramics workshop in Osnabrück.

In 1948 she began studying at the Cologne factory schools in Joseph Jaekel's class . Her special areas of interest included the hustle and bustle in copper and silver. She took courses in writing and graphics with Walter Greinig, among other things, and studied the art forms of Wilhelm Teuwen and Ludwig Gies . In 1955 she became a master student of Joseph Jaekel. From 1956 she worked as a freelance metal sculptor in Cologne.

With Hans Karl Burgeff she had learned at the Cologne factory schools know she was married from 1956th In 1960 they parted ways again.

In addition to her artistic activity, she became involved in the parish of St. Peter (Cologne) from 1970 onwards , which was headed by Father Alois Schuh SJ.

The works of Eva Burgeff can be found predominantly in the field of sacred art, u. a. in churches by Gottfried Böhm . In addition to larger driving work, such as tabernacle cladding, wall crosses and Easter candlesticks, she also carried out smaller driving work, vessels in copper and silver, work in ceramics and graphic work.

Eva Burgeff died in Borken after a long illness.
