Eva María Zuk

Eva María Zuk (born December 24, 1945 in Łódź ; † February 27, 2017 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican pianist of Polish origin.

Life

Zuk grew up in Venezuela and performed there with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Venezuela at the age of ten . When she was thirteen years old, the Venezuelan Ministry of Culture awarded her the title of profesora y ejecutante de piano . Until 1967 she studied at the New York Juilliard School with Arthur Rubinstein , Gerty Haas , Eduard Steuermann , Rosina Lhévinne , Leon Barzin and Zbigniew Drzewiecki, among others . It was there that she met her future husband, the conductor Enrique Bátiz . She lived in Mexico from 1971 and received Mexican citizenship in 1994.

Zuk's repertoire included music from the Baroque period to works by contemporary composers and more than 30 concerts for piano and orchestra. She was particularly interested in the piano works of Manuel María Ponces , Ricardo Castro Herreras and Felipe Villanuevas . She toured many European and American countries and performed with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra , the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra and the American Symphony Orchestra . Among other things, she was awarded the Order of Andrés Bello and the Medalla del Bicentenario de Simón Bolívar in Venezuela, the Karol Szymanowski Centennial Medal and the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta in Poland and the Escudo de Armas de San Juan in Puerto Rica.
