The lemonheads
The Lemonheads (English; "the lemon heads") are an independent band from Boston .
history
Evan Dando (vocals, guitar, drums) founded the first Lemonheads formation in 1986 with his high school friends Ben Deily (vocals, guitar, drums) and Jesse Peretz (bass). That same summer they released their debut EP Laughing All The Way To The Cleaners .
The band received more attention at the latest with the album Lick , which was released in 1989 . The band's first albums, which were characterized by a characteristic mixture of melodic framework, subliminally erupting guitar energy and Dando's catchy voice, were released on the American indie label Taang! Records released.
A stylistic turnaround came in 1992, when the Lemonheads became even more of a solo project of Dandos than before. The style shifted more and more away from the punk guitar walls to the more song-oriented New Folk . This made the band accessible to a wider audience, which helped them to become a permanent fixture in the rotation of the various indie shows. The 1993 episode was the biggest commercial success with the cover version of the song Mrs. Robinson (originally Simon and Garfunkel ) on the album It's A Shame About Ray . In 1994, the band contributed the title Plaster Caster for Kiss - tribute album Kiss My Ass in.
Evan Dando also made a name for himself in the gossip columns of the music papers. His repeatedly staged excesses, appearances as a model and a relationship with Juliana Hatfield were popular topics in indie circles. At the same time, Dando was less and less able to get out of his drug problems, which had a negative effect on the success of the Lemonheads. After the poor sales of Car Button Cloth , Dando broke up the band in 1996.
After a less successful solo album in 2003 (Evan Dando, Baby I'm Bored ), a revival took place in 2006, exactly ten years after the band split up. He recorded a new album together with musician friends who had already accompanied him on some of his solo activities. The Lemonheads was released in September 2006 and received widespread attention. The group at that time consisted of Dando, drummer Bill Stevenson and bassist Karl Alvarez, both members of the band Descendents . On the next Lemonheads output, the cover album Varshons , which was released in 2009, Dando was accompanied by bassist Vess Ruhtenberg and drummer Devon Ashley from the band The Pieces.
