The Evangelical Lutheran Christ Church in Steinen was built in the 1960s. The small modern church stands out due to its expressive roof shape. The church and parish belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baden .

history

In 1949, immigrants from the Sudetenland and Batschka formed an Evangelical Lutheran congregation in Steinen. These celebrated their services until the early 1960s in the Evangelical Church in Höllstein . In March 1957, the Evangelical Lutheran congregation bought a piece of land from the Steinen political community to build a hall or a church. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on November 6, 1960, and the foundation stone was laid on January 6, 1961. Between 1960 and 1962, according to plans by the Munich architect Olaf Gulbrannson, a separate church was built, which was inaugurated on December 16, 1962. Since Gulbrannson had a fatal accident before the church was completed, the co-architect Karl Schwabenbauer carried out the work to the end. The church has been a listed building since 2011.

description

The church is in the Neumatt settlement in Steinen, a housing estate south of the town center. The building with a square floor plan is covered by two saddle roofs running diagonally to each other , from the intersection of which a slender spire rises. In the basement of the cubic structure there are community rooms and the sacristy . The actual church interior with semicircular seats is located on the upper floor. Three corners are provided with rectangular glass windows running vertically from the basement to the roof edge. The altar fresco, altar cross and glass window were designed by Hubert Distler .

In the fourth corner there is an attic that houses two bronze bells. They were made in 1966 by the Karlsruhe bell and art foundry. The dis ′ ′ bell was baptized Alpha , the fis ′ ′ bell was named Omega . The Steinmeyer - organ from 1965 has an electric play and register contracture , two manuals , one pedal and five registers.
