The Evangelical Lutheran Central Association for Encounters between Christians and Jews is a supra-regional umbrella association in which regional church associations and representatives are united. The headquarters of the Central Association and its office are located in the house of ecclesiastical services of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover at Archivstrasse 3 in Hanover , to which it is affiliated.

history

In 1871 the Evangelical Lutheran Central Association for Mission under Israel was founded by Franz Delitzsch in Leipzig . Over the years the association changed its name to Ev.-Luth. Central Association for Witness and Service among Jews and Christians and from 1985 was called the Evangelical Lutheran Central Association for Witness and Service among Jews and Christians , then until today the Evangelical Lutheran Central Association for the Encounter between Christians and Jews . The association was dissolved between 1935 and 1945. After the Second World War , it re-established itself and initially had its headquarters in Eversen and Munich , then to this day in the Office for Community Service / House of Church Services in Hanover.

tasks

The association supports the dialogue between Jews and Christians . It imparts knowledge about the Jewish faith, supports and promotes the dismantling of anti-Semitic tendencies in church and society with projects, lectures, events and discussions . The central association and its members maintain contact with Jewish churches, groups and institutions. Twice (until 2012 four times) the central association publishes the magazine Encounters . The association encounter Christians and Jews Lower Saxony e. V. awards the Blickwechsel Prize every two years . The members regularly publish newsletters. The central association and its branch association, Encounter Christians and Jews of Lower Saxony, are closely linked in terms of personnel and content with the Church and Judaism Department in the House of Church Services of the Hanoverian regional church. The central association is a sponsor of the Institutum Judaicum Delitzschianum at the University of Münster and the Otto von Harling Foundation . He is a member of the Evangelical Middle East Commission (EMOK). and cooperates closely with the Conference of the Regional Churches Working Groups Church and Judaism (KLAK) and the Lutheran European Commission Church and Judaism (LEKKJ), of which the Central Association is a founding member.

Encounter - Christians and Jews Lower Saxony eV

Encounter - Christians and Jews Lower Saxony eV was founded in 1982 as “Ev.-luth. Service for Christians and Jews - Lower Saxony eV ”founded. The aim was to intensify the work in Lower Saxony. Since 2000 it bears the new name, which takes up a thought of the philosopher Martin Buber : "All real life is encounter." The association has more than 200 members throughout Lower Saxony, other regions of Germany and other European countries such as Great Britain and Switzerland. The headquarters are, together with that of the Central Association, in the House of Church Services in Hanover. In cooperation with local and regional partners, including the Liberal Jewish Community of Hanover and the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation, several events take place throughout Lower Saxony every year. The main focus of the association is the interpretation of biblical texts in the light of the Jewish and Christian tradition, the offer of courses in Biblical Hebrew, the teaching of regional Jewish history through excursions, as well as the fight against anti-Semitism. The organs of the association are the general assembly and the board.
