Evangelical Church in Ruchheim

The Evangelical Church in the Ludwigshafen district of Ruchheim was built in 1833/34.

history

The St. Cyriakus Church in Ruchheim, first mentioned in 1307, was probably founded by the Cyriakus monastery in Neuhausen and was in their possession. The local rule of Ruchheim was held by the Counts of Leiningen as a fief of the Lords of Hirschhorn . The Leininger turned to Lutheranism in the 16th century . After the Cyriakus pen was taken by the Electoral Palatinate , Elector Friedrich III continued in 1567 . a Reformed pastor in Ruchheim. In 1705, when the Palatinate church was divided, the churches were divided between the Catholics and the Reformed. Although Ruchheim did not belong to the Electoral Palatinate, the St. Cyriakus Church was included and assigned to the Catholics because the right of patronage lay with the Elector. The people of Ruchheim and their local lords protested against this approach. Petitions were sent to the Reichstag and the English court. But in 1713 Palatinate officials forced the final handover of the church. The Protestants were given the town hall hall for their services, and from 1806 a barn was used as a church.

In 1830 King Ludwig I , the Palatinate on the left bank of the Rhine, now belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria , allowed a nationwide collection for the construction of a Protestant church in Ruchheim. The church was built in 1833/34. Responsible recorded August von Voit and district engineer Johann Bernhard sparrow which she in a pattern designed by Leo von Klenze built. The roof turret was put on in 1864. As one of the few churches in Ludwigshafen, it suffered no damage during World War II . In 2011 the church was renovated.

The church is in the west of Ruchheim on the road to Fußgönheim . It is a classical hall building . The slate roof turret with its high pointed helmet is 32 meters high. There are five arched windows on each side. According to the Reformed tradition, the church was built in an almost unadorned design.

Inside, Tuscan columns support the wooden gallery running around three sides. The altar, which is also wooden, and the pulpit have been preserved in the classical style and are original. During the renovation in 2011, the ceiling with more than a thousand stars was modeled on the Abrahamic starry sky. The organ was built by Walcker in 1874 .
