Location of the local community Fußgönheim in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis | ||
Fußgönheim is a municipality in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Maxdorf Association .
geography
Fußgönheim is in the Upper Rhine Plain , about 7 kilometers west of Ludwigshafen am Rhein (city center). The Schwabenbach flows through the village . Neighboring communities from the east in a clockwise direction are Ludwigshafen-Ruchheim, Dannstadt-Schauernheim , Ellerstadt , Birkenheide and Maxdorf .
history
Archaeological finds indicate a settlement at the time of the Celts and Romans , the first secure documentary evidence comes from the property register of the Prüm Abbey from 893.
Fußgönheim was owned by the Salian imperial family from 900 to 1100 , later sovereignty passed to the Electoral Palatinate . Fußgönheim was divided into an upper village and a lower village, and lent to the von Falkenstein and von Bolanden families . Later the Bolandian property was sold to the Count of Leiningen . The Electoral Palatinate court chancellor Jakob Tillmann von Hallberg from the Hallberg family bought the inheritance claims of the upper village in 1728 and those of the lower village a year later, whereupon Elector Karl III. Philip was granted sovereign rights over the village. In 1740 he built Hallberg Castle with a church and introduced the Catholic denomination to the place, which has been Lutheran since the Reformation. The rule of the Hallberg family ended with the French conquering the Palatinate.
Since the withdrawal of the French in 1818, the management of the municipality has been subject to the mayor and the municipal council. The place was initially administered by the Speyer District Office in the Bavarian Rhine District , which was renamed Pfalz (Bavaria) in 1837 . In 1886, Fußgönheim went to the newly formed Ludwigshafen district office, from which the Ludwigshafen am Rhein district , now part of the Rhein-Pfalz district , emerged after the Second World War .
On June 7, 1969, the BASF settlement with 1,602 inhabitants was moved to Maxdorf.
Religions
On October 31, 2014, 40.296 percent of the population were Protestant and 25.604 percent Catholic . The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational .
Population development
The first information on the population is from 1560, when about 150-200 people lived in Fußgönheim. Until the 19th century, only the street to the east, consisting of Hauptstrasse and Ruchheimer Strasse, was inhabited. The settlement of many small farmers, artisans and merchants in the first half of the 19th century led to a sharp increase in population from around 500 inhabitants in 1815 to 1000 in 1840. During this time, the first settlements to the west took place. The local boundaries remained practically unchanged until 1900, after which new settlements were almost exclusively created on the western side of the founding core, as the sloping terrain towards the lower terrace on the eastern local border made building there difficult. In 1950 a population of 1500 inhabitants was reached, mainly due to the development of the western street of Bahnhofstrasse and Speyerer Strasse. In the 1960s and 1970s, the designation of new building areas saw the largest increase in area in Fußgönheim; the population rose to 2565 in 1988.

Blazon : "Divided and split at the top,a six-spoke red wheel in gold at thetop right , a red-armored silver eagle in blue at the top left, a jumping red fox at the bottom in silver."
It was approved by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior in 1927. |

Reasons for the coat of arms: The fox refers to the origin of the place name, which is derived from Fuchs-Gönheim. The wheel is reminiscent of the Bolands and the eagle of the Leininger , both former local lords. |
Culture and sights
Buildings
The Hallbergsche Schloss was built in 1728–31 for the Palatine Chancellor Baron Jakob Tillmann von Hallberg . In 1815 the castle went into private ownership and was used as a shop, barn and warehouse. In 1972 it was acquired by the Catholic parish and extensively restored.
The baroque castle church of St. Jakobus Major, which is part of the complex, was built in 1740/41.
The Protestant Luther Church was built in 1732/33. A church can be found on the site as early as 1253. The Speyer cathedral dean and bishop select Eberhard von Randeck brought about their incorporation into the Speyer cathedral monastery . In gratitude, the cathedral chapter founded a daily mass for him and his relatives in 1356, on the St. Cyriacus altar that he built. The celebrant was rewarded and a. a monastery wake is always enough, which is why the early morning service in the cathedral was generally called wake-up mass . Today's round-arched plastered building, structured with sandstone, has a three-sided choir closure and an inserted facade tower, which was built together with the new facade in 1842. The nave was raised in 1911.
