The Schwabenbach is an almost 18 km long body of water III. Order in the Palatinate ( Rhineland-Palatinate ). As the left tributary of the Floßbach, it drains indirectly into the Rhine via this and the Isenach .

On the municipal side, the Isenach- Eckbach water body is responsible for the care of the Schwabenbach .

course

The Schwabenbach rises at 348  m above sea level. NHN in the Middle Palatinate Forest on the Bad Dürkheim district in the Hammelstal below the 522  m high Becherskopf . After about 500 m, the right main spring arm converges at the cup bridge with a somewhat weaker left spring arm that is only 300 m long.

The Schwabenlandhalle Bach then applies the water of mutton well and the three pools of Betz source into its course and follows the east until the Haardtrand the Poppental . Partly piped, it flows through the residential area of Wachenheim . In Friedelsheim , the course of the brook supplied the water for the defensive moat of a low castle in the Middle Ages and is today the namesake of Schwabenbachweiher and Schwabenbachhalle . In Gönnheim the Schwabenbach used to flow through today's Kühweiher natural monument and supplied it with fresh water; The pond silted up more and more because of the increasing pollution of the Schwabenbach with untreated sewage and because of the heavy input of leaves. That is why the Schwabenbach is now passed directly south of the Kühweiher and is separated from it by a threshold. Only when there is a strong flood does the brook still partially drain into the remains of the Kühweiher.

East of Fußgönheim , the Schwabenbach first crosses the Erlenbach irrigation ditch, which runs from south to north, and finally flows into the Floßbach from the left at a height of 95  m , which in turn reaches the Isenach between Lambsheim and Eppstein , a left tributary of the Rhine.

Hydrology

The Schwabenbach quickly absorbs surface water in its catchment area, as large areas of vineyards are slightly inclined towards the course of the stream and drain in its direction. As a result, especially in the localities of Friedelsheim and Gönnheim, there is a risk of flooding in the village centers during heavy rain events.

In the past, the Friedelsheim soccer field, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the Schwabenbach, served as a kind of unofficial rainwater retention basin . In recent decades, however, structural measures to hold back rain have been carried out along the course of the stream.
