The Evangelical Church of Spachbrücken is the church of Spachbrücken , a district of Reinheim in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district in southern Hesse . It was built before 1513 and first as a Catholic , from 1526 as a Lutheran church.

history

The first church in Spachbrücken was administered as a branch church from Dieburg, the service was held in the church consecrated to the Virgin Mary by an assistant priest from Dieburg . In 1513 the bell known as “Maria” was installed, which is still in service today. At the beginning of the Reformation , Spachbrücken belonged to the County of Wertheim , which became Lutheran, while the mother church in Dieburg in Electoral Mainz remained Catholic.

Spachbrücken was badly devastated during the Thirty Years' War, the church was still suffering from severe destruction and dilapidation in 1724, the renovation could not be made possible by the community itself, so the administration under the Count of Löwenstein was asked for financial help.

On May 26, 1749, lightning struck the roof structure, completely destroying the renovated church. The church was then demolished by resolution of the community. Work on the building was completed just four years later, only the font and bell were taken from the former church. The Kirchweih (Kerb) took place in July 1755, but today it is in September.

Building

The Spachbrücker Kirche is a simple hall church with a 3/8 choir closure . With the exception of the side of the main entrance, there are galleries on all sides, which rest on round wooden columns that also support the roof on the west side. In the ceiling area there are also baroque ceiling paintings , which were uncovered in 1971.

In the rear right part of the church as seen from the entrance is the pulpit . The piece, made of oak with walnut inlays, stands on a winding column made directly from a trunk. Behind the pulpit is the old sacristy , which lost its purpose after the opening of the new one on the left of the church and is now used as a “vestibule” to the pulpit staircase.

Usage today

In addition to regular services, the Spachbrücken church also regularly hosts cultural events, such as the Spachbrücken evening music , which has become known regionally .
