history

Bommern has been part of Wengern's church since Christianity . turned in 1543, the local church community turned to the teachings of Luther . Towards the end of the 19th century, the desire for an own church building in Bommern grew stronger, but the presbytery and the regional church refused. At the beginning of 1886, around 200 parishioners announced their withdrawal from the church. Finally, in 1890, Bommern became an independent parish and was able to lay the foundation stone for its own church in August 1892, which was consecrated on November 15, 1893.

architecture

Contrary to the prevailing tradition, the choir was not oriented to the east, so it was possible to erect the building on a hill, visible from afar.

The neo-Gothic stepped hall to three bays closes in the west with 5/8. The extensions look like a transept. The complex with the tower group was built in Bruchstein from 1892 to 1893 based on designs by Gerhard August Fischer. The exterior is structured by ashlar at the edges and buttresses. The main tower with the portal is flanked by stair towers. In the interior, a ribbed vault rests on round supports. A number of items of equipment, such as the altar, organ prospectus, gallery parapet and pulpit as well as the colored windows come from the construction time of the building.

Furnishing

The first organ from the workshop of Ernst Seifert (Cologne) had 17 stops and membrane drawers. It was founded in 1938 by EF Walcker & Cie. overhauled and electrified. In 1978 the Schwelmer Orgelbau company built a new organ that could be built into the old case.

The bell of the church consists of three cast steel bells from the Bochumer Verein, cast in 1924. The bell is tuned to the Te Deum motif c'-es'-f '.

modification

In the course of the decades various damage and defects came to light, the architecture office SCAN from Bochum was commissioned in 2010 with the preparation of the corresponding renovation plans. The interior should be restructured and an extension added. In this way, different forms of worship and other events are to be made possible. The number of benches has been reduced and additional seating has been made possible. The walls were given a new coat of paint and a new heating system was installed.
