Protestant church

The Protestant church is a listed church building in Altweilnau , a district of the community of Weilrod , in the Hochtaunus district in Hesse .

The previous church was the Katharinen Chapel on the castle grounds, it was first mentioned in 1352. It was closed in 1862 due to dilapidation and demolished in 1864 by the Treisberg master carpenter Wolfsheimer. Now the people of Altweilnau used the church in Neuweilnau . The residents of Treisberg and Finsternthal , who also belonged to the Altweilnau parish, turned to the church in Riedelbach .

On June 11, 1865, the foundation stone of today's church was laid. The hall building with uniform equipment in classical forms was completed in the same year. It is made of gray rubble stones and plastered.

The organ comes from the organ builder Daniel Raßmann from 1837. The first two bells were cast in 1953. The larger one has a diameter of 0.833 m and a mass of 324.5 kg. The second has a diameter of 0.750 m. In 1966 the third bell with a diameter of 0.677 m and a weight of 167 kg was added for DM 2,740.

In 1974 the parish of Weilnau was formed. In addition to Altweilnau, Treisberg and Finsternthal, this also included Neuweilnau and Riedelbach.

Individual evidence

  1. See Franz Bösken, Sources and Research on Organ History of the Middle Rhine (Volume 2 AK), Mainz 1975, p. 28, which names October 1, 1835 as the date of conclusion of the contract and October 19, 1837 as the date of completion. Due to the later construction of today's church, it can be assumed that the organ originally stood in the old Katharinenkapelle on the castle grounds and was re-erected in the new church after 1865.
