Treisberg is the smallest part of the community Schmitten in the Hessian Hochtaunuskreis .
Geographical location
Treisberg is located in the eastern Hintertaunus about 750 meters north below the horse head (663 meters), in a gentle mountain saddle above the Niedgesbach valley. The location in the Taunus Nature Park can be reached from Weiltal on the curvy, with switchbacks winding, county road 742.
In Treisberg live about 186 inhabitants. The area is 287 hectares.
Neighboring towns are Finsternthal (west), Hunoldstal and Brombach (east) and Dorfweil (south).
history
Treisberg is first mentioned in 1272 as a property of the Lords of Eppstein . In 1369 the Landstein court is mentioned as the Treisberg court (Drasberg). Treisberg belonged to Landstein church until 1535. With the takeover of the Königstein share in Altweilnau by Kurtrier , the parish is abolished and Treisberg then parishes to Altweilnau.
In the course of administrative reform in Hesse , the previously independent community Treisberg was powerful state law with other, previously independent municipalities, to today's on August 1, 1972 Great community Schmitten together . Since then, Treisberg has been a part of the Schmitten community.
Culture and sights
Lookout tower on the horse's head
The horse head forest trail brings the flora and fauna of the typical low mountain range closer. A 34 meter high observation tower on the horse's head from 1987 offers a panoramic view of the Taunus heights, the Usinger basin and the Weiltal and is an important attraction for day tourists.
Ski lift
In Treisberg there are two lifts that open up the steepest slope in the Taunus . If the snow conditions allow, there is also a good and much-used toboggan slope almost down to the road to Mauloff .
Old school
The old school in Treisberg is used by the Heimatverein. It was built as a town hall in 1846, but was never used as such, but operated as a dwarf school from December 11, 1860 . Before the school existed, the children of the village attended school in Finsternthal . In 1965 the school was closed. Today the children attend primary school in Riedelbach or Arnoldshain . The school consisted of the teacher's apartment on the ground floor and the classroom on the first floor. In 1860 15 children were educated. The highest number of pupils was reached in 1904/04 with 25 children, the lowest in 1885/86 with three children. The half-timbered house is the only building in Treisberg that is under monument protection (see the list of cultural monuments in Treisberg ). In front of the old school there is a cast-iron fountain typical of the Taunus .
dialect
The language of the Treisbergers and the surrounding villages is very similar, but there are exceptions. The cause of this phenomenon is likely to be the influence of the Westerwald or Wetterau dialect in the villages downstream, while the Lower Main idiom has shaped the language in the upper villages through various connections since ancient times.
Hiking trails
A large number of hiking trails run around the horse head as well as to Seelenberg and the Weiltal. Nature lovers often travel to Treisberg by car via the only access road. The main attractions are the nature of the Taunus and many kilometers of well-tended hiking trails.
