geography

Brombach is located in the Weiltal of the eastern Hintertaunus at an altitude of 391 to 503 meters above sea level . On an area of 298 hectares, Brombach has a population of 507 (as of September 2006). The Jammerhecke pass connects the Weiltal with the Usinger Land .

history

Old Brombach Brewery

First mentioned in 1274 (according to other sources in 1398). The village belonged to the Stockheim High Court and was a subsidiary of Rod am Berg . In all documents that mention the municipality, it is mentioned together with the neighboring village of Hunoldstal (formerly Hundstall). There is evidence of a forge in the area of the "Auf der Sorge" desert near the village , from which the Lords of Stockheim received taxes.

Brombach was independent until the voluntary merger as part of the regional reform in Hesse on April 1, 1972 with Schmitten and other previously independent municipalities and has since been part of the municipality of Schmitten.

Origin of name

The name Brombach is derived from the Old High German term Bramo (for thorn bush or scrub). In medieval documents, the place was sometimes named as Brambach . The coat of arms of the place, designed in 1951, shows a black blackberry with green leaves and a green stem on a golden background, the coat of arms motif being linguistically inspired by the place name.

religion

Methodist Church Brombach

In Brombach there is a congregation of the Evangelical Methodist Church . The parish was founded around 1862. The church building itself was built in 1895 for 9,000 marks and expanded in 1965 and 1994.

politics

mayor

The last mayor of the independent community was Walter Moos.

coat of arms

Brombach coat of arms
Blazon : "In gold, a black blackberry with green sepals and a green stem."
Justification of the coat of arms: This talking coat of arms was officially awarded on February 26, 1951. The municipality has only had its own seals since 1816, but these did not contain a picture until the coat of arms was introduced. The place belonged to the Stockheim Higher Court (Rod a. B. Court), which finally fell to Nassau in 1669. In the color scheme of the coat of arms, the old rulers, the lords of Stockheim, are therefore taken into account.

Culture and sights

Buildings

For the listed buildings see the list of cultural monuments in Brombach .

In the middle of the village, an ensemble of renovated half-timbered houses, the old brewery, catches the eye. The property, which is used privately today, is an unchanged, preserved courtyard from the 18th century with a half-timbered house, ancillary building (the brewery) and a barn.

Luther oak

Luther oak

In 1883 was the occasion of the 400th birthday of Martin Luther , the Luther oak planted, which today represents a focal point at the intersection of Weil valley road.

dialect

The dialect of the Brombacher and the other Hochtaunusdörfer is very similar, but there are exceptions. The cause of this phenomenon is likely to be the influence of the Westerwald or Wetterau dialect in the villages downstream, while the Lower Main idiom has shaped the language in the upper villages through various connections since ancient times.

Economy and Infrastructure

Public facilities

Brombach has a kindergarten that was built as a school in the 1960s together with the neighboring community of Hunoldstal. Attached to this is a parish hall built in the 1990s. The volunteer fire brigade has existed in Brombach since 1932 . Outside the village is the cemetery, inaugurated at the end of the 1960s, which replaced the old, now abandoned cemetery.

Economic structure

Even though the majority of the residents commute to work in the Rhine-Main area today, there are a number of local businesses. By far the largest local employer is the regionally known company Müller & Co., which manufactures and installs plastic windows and house doors. The company has over 120 employees and has existed since 1905. There are also two restaurants and a petrol station in the village. A sawmill was abandoned in the 1990s.

tourism

The Weiltalweg , which is popular with hikers and cyclists from all over the Rhine-Main area , runs through Brombach . Furthermore, Brombach is known for the clubhouse of the NaturFreunde Deutschlands local group Frankfurt am Main eV ("NaturFreundeHaus Brombacher Hütte") located above the village in the forest , which is a starting point for hikers.
