Hunoldstal

Hunoldstal (before 1950 Hundstall ) is a district of the Schmitten community in the Hochtaunus district in southern Hesse .

geography

Hunoldstal is located in the Weiltal of the eastern Hintertaunus at an altitude of 357 to 504 meters above sea level . On an area of 222 hectares, Hunoldstal has a population of 434 (as of September 2006).

history

The place is first mentioned in documents in 1398 (under the name: Hundesdeil).

The village belonged to the Stockheim High Court and was a subsidiary of Rod am Berg . In all documents that mention the municipality, it is mentioned together with the neighboring village of Brombach . There is evidence of a forge in the village for the 16th century, from which the Lords of Stockheim received taxes.

In the 13th century, Hunoldstal belonged to the domain of the Counts of Diez, later Hunoldstal came to Nassau-Usingen .

Until the voluntary amalgamation within the scope of the regional reform in Hesse on April 1, 1972, Hunoldstal was independent with Schmitten and other previously independent communities and has since been part of the community of Schmitten.

Origin of name

The place has been called Hunoldstal since 1950. The previous designation dog stable was considered offensive. In documents from earlier centuries, the name is mentioned in a large number of variants. For example, the following have been handed down: Hündestal (1424), Hondestal (1450), Hundestall (1437), Hoinstal (1477), Heymstall (1516), Hunstalln (1529), Hendstal (1570), Hundstall (1682).

However, today's name Hunoldstal is not a documented historical form of the name, but a new creation.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was awarded to the then independent municipality of Hunoldstal in 1954. It shows a silver ax and a silver pickaxe crossed diagonally in the green field, angled by four golden ears of corn. The ax and ears of wheat are supposed to symbolize the emergence of the place by clearing the forest.
