Rudolf Harms

Rudolf Harms (born March 21, 1901 in Hanover ; † August 25, 1984 in Schmitten , Taunus ) was a German writer , journalist , film critic and biographer .

Life

Rudolf Harms received his doctorate in 1922 at the University of Leipzig with his dissertation, which he wrote with Hans Driesch , investigating the aesthetics of feature films . The study was one of the first dissertations on aesthetic issues in the medium of film in Germany. It was published as a book in 1926 under the title Philosophy of Film, which was soon translated into Russian. Harms first worked as an advertising copywriter , then as a film critic and auctioneer in Berlin . Out of aversion to the Nazi regime, he fell silent. In the post-war period Harms wrote short stories and novel biographies.

He lived in Hunoldstal until his death .
