The Evangelical Church of Düssel is a Protestant church in the district of Düssel belonging to Wülfrath . The church building was built from 1874 to 1876. The building is a hall building with romanized decorative shapes.

history

The foundation stone was laid on August 11, 1873, but construction was delayed by three years due to financial difficulties. The inauguration finally took place on July 28, 1876. The construction costs were 30,000 thalers instead of the originally estimated 13,000 thalers.

On March 8, 1945, the tower and the nave were badly damaged by bombs, but were then rebuilt. In the entrance area there are two memorial plaques, which remember the parishioners who died in the two world wars.

The church is sponsored and used by the Evangelical Parish of Düssel , which is the only Wülfrath parish that is independent, but whose catchment area also extends to parts of Wuppertal. It is united with the Bergische Diakonie Aprath , which was previously run as a separate community .

Furnishing

The current organ dates from 1961. It is a large St. Peter's organ with 1348 pipes .

The nave is equipped with wooden benches that can be reached from two side aisles. The choir is located on the gallery. The last renovation took place in 2004. The walls are completely unadorned, only two Bible quotations are painted on the front. The latest innovations were an ambo (2008) and a baptismal font (2009), which were financed by donations. Both are made of bronze and rest on a foundation of limestone (important for Wülfrath) .

The ascent to the church is a gravel path lined with linden trees , which was redesigned in 2012 with donations after the previous trees had to be felled in autumn 2011 for safety reasons.

Bells

The three bells were cast from cast steel by the Bochum Association in 1920 . The prayer rings at 7 a.m., 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays.
