Church in Donop

The Protestant church is a listed church building in Donop , a district of Blomberg in the Lippe district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The church was originally under the patronage of St. Paul . The small hall building with a recessed choir square was built from quarry stone in the 12th century . The square west tower is a little younger. The arched windows were enlarged at the beginning of the 19th century. The cross-arm-like southern extension probably dates from the end of the 16th century. The grave vault of the von Donop zu Altendonop family is located on the north side of the church under a sloping roof . It was built in 1703 and expanded in 1810. A large coat of arms tombstone of the von Donop family from 1681 was placed next to the entrance. In the interior, groin vaults rest over shield arches on stepped corner templates. A longitudinal barrel vault was drawn into the tower hall . Most of the wall and vault paintings date from the beginning of the 16th century. They were discovered and supplemented between 1964 and 1966. There were u. a. painted wall hangings, capitals and vaulted ribs found.
