Laurentiuskirche from the southwest

The Evangelical Church Tegernau , also Laurentiuskirche in the town of Tegernau of the same name , which is part of the Kleines Wiesental municipality , was partly rebuilt in the middle of the 18th century on the basis of the previous church. The first documented mention of a church in Tegernau goes back to the beginning of the 12th century. The organ from the end of the 19th century is a listed building .

history

In 1114 the first pastor of Tegernau is mentioned in writing. Due to its geographical location, the first church was responsible for most of the villages in the Kleiner Wiesental up to the foot of the Belchen . This church with the patronage of Our Lady was probably made of wood and was converted into a stone one in the 13th century. Parts of this old masonry have been preserved to this day.

In 1557 Saint Lorenz was named as the patronage of the church in Tegernau : "Gotzhus sant Lorentzen zu Thegernow". The renovation and expansion work started in 1688 could only be completed in 1693 with work on the choir. A fresco was also created in the 17th century, but could only be seen until the beginning of the 20th century. Urgent expansions and repairs to the churches were repeatedly postponed at the beginning of the 18th century.

It was not until 1743 that the master builder Arnold made a plan for the renovation and new construction. With the cost accounting of 1754, the building permit was finally granted a year later and the renovation began. This year is carved over the main entrance with the coat of arms of the margrave. After the work was completed, Special Superintendent Wucherer from Schopfheim inaugurated the church on November 13, 1757.

After the Second World War , the church was renovated. In 1966, the entire choir was completely rebuilt. The organ moved from there to the west gallery. In the years that followed, modern windows designed by the artist Jürgen Brodwolf were installed in the choir . The carpenter Ralf Kropf from Tegernau built a new altar in 1988 as a journeyman's piece, the shape of which takes up the surrounding building.

From 2010 the Laurentiuskirche in Tegernau was closed due to the risk of the roof collapsing. After an extensive roof renovation, it was ceremoniously put into use again on June 23, 2013 as part of the village's 900th anniversary celebration.

description

Church building

The Tegernau Church consists of a rectangular nave and an adjoining four-story bell tower . Both structures are covered by saddle roofs that run parallel to one another . The tower is provided with corner blocks up to the edge of the roof. On the fourth floor there are arched sound arcades on each side . A clock face of the tower clock is attached to each of the two gable ends and, in addition, on the third floor there are two faces to the other facade sides.

Interior and equipment

The nave is drawn in with a flat wooden ceiling. Above the entrance from the tower hall and on the north wall there is a corner gallery on which the organ is set up on the west side. The polygonal choir forms the altar area, which is located on a small pedestal. A wooden bench is attached to the wall along the choir wall. In the center of the choir is the altar table made of light wood. On the inside of the north wall of the choir there is a grave slab that commemorates Johann Friedrich Stender, pastor († September 12, 1717) and Friedrich Gräter, Vogt († January 24, 1745). In the entrance hall there is an epitaph by Fritz Greter, Vogt († December 26, 1707) and his wife Maria Greter, b. Lacher († April 15, 1707).

A window in the south wall of the nave is dated to 1430. A simple wooden cross is also attached to the south wall.
