Our Lady
Our Lady (abbreviated ULF, in aggregated Liebfrauen ) is a name for Mary , the mother of Jesus . Here is woman , the old meaning "mistress" ( Frouwe was the counterpart to FRO "Lord," see. Corpus Christi ). At Our Lady or Our Lady, no majority is meant, it is rather an old genitive of woman .
Our Lady is part of invocations to the Mother of God, the name of images of grace and Marian feasts as well as the name of religious communities , societies of apostolic life , brotherhoods , pious associations , institutions, organizations and institutions that are subject to the patronage of the Mother of God. Many churches are consecrated to the patronage of the Blessed Mother and therefore have the designation Our Lady or the popular Liebfrauen in their name.
There are around 150 religious orders for women who bear Our Lady in their name . Often this is supplemented by a place or an honorary designation, e.g. B. “Our Lady of Fátima ” or “Our Lady of the Angels ”.
