The city of Wesel provided 7 hectares of land between Schermbecker Landstrasse, Aaper Weg and Kiek in den Busch for the new building . The first construction phase began in autumn 1959. The opening day for the 190 bed house with nursing school was May 2, 1962. General economic problems in the 1960s delayed the second construction phase. Once funding was secured, it was started in 1973 and completed in the spring of 1979.
