Evelyn Baghcheban

Evelyn Baghcheban (* 1928 ; † October 31, 2010 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish- Iranian opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ) and music teacher .

Life

After attending school, she studied at the State Conservatory in Ankara ( Hacettepe Üniversitesi Ankara Devlet Konservatuvarı ). After marrying the composer Samin Baghcheban , whom she met in Istanbul and with whom she was married until his death in 2008, she settled in Tehran and set up the first singing courses at the local music school .

Her students included the tenor Mohammad Nuri as well as the singers Pari Zanganeh and Sudabeh Tajbaksh. She also founded the Tehran National Choir at the beginning of her stay in Iran.

Evelyn Baghcheban is counted among the founders of opera in Iranian music and also helped the musicians Monir Vakili , Heshmat Sanjari , and Fakhereh Saba to found the "Rudaki Hall" , a concert hall for the performance of classical music . She also recorded records such as Rangin Kamun (The Rainbow), which featured songs and compositions by her husband Samin Baghcheban.

Her final years she spent with her family in Turkey, where it until her retirement lecturer in piano at the Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts was.
