Evelyn Dennison Hone

Sir Evelyn Dennison Hone (born December 13, 1911 in Rhodesia , † September 18, 1979 ) was the last governor of Northern Rhodesia .

When he took office as Governor of Northern Rhodesia on April 23, 1959, succeeding Sir Arthur Edward Trevor Benson, he had just been knighted as Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George . During his tenure, he made a significant contribution to Northern Rhodesia declaring itself independent as a state of Zambia . His term ended on October 24, 1964 when the state of Zambia was founded and Kenneth Kaunda became its first president.

On January 1, 1965, he was raised to the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George.

Several schools, buildings, and a college of arts were named after Evelyn Hone, such as the Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce in Lusaka.
