Daddy Can Do Us All (Original Title: Evening Shade ) is a 100-episode American sitcom that first aired on CBS from 1990 to 1994 . The series was developed by Linda Bloodworth-Thomason . The leading role as a former professional football player who is supposed to coach a high school team is played by Burt Reynolds , who won an Emmy in 1991 and a Golden Globe in 1992 for his performance . In Germany, the series ran in 1992 on Tele 5 , then from 1996 to 1999 on RTL 2 .

Plot and characters

Wood Newton is the former star player for the Pittsburgh Steelers . Now he is returning to his hometown of Evening Shade, Arkansas, with his wife, attorney Ava, and their three children, Taylor, Molly and Will, to coach the unsuccessful high school football team. They move into the home of Wood's father-in-law Evan Evans, editor of the Evening Shade Argus newspaper , who later marries stripper Fontana Beausoleil. The math teacher Herman Stiles is at Wood's side as assistant coach. Other characters include Evan's sister Frieda, the doctor Harlan Elldridge, his wife Merleen, and the restaurant owner Ponder Blue.
