Everett Kent (born November 15, 1888 in East Bangor , Northampton County , Pennsylvania , †  October 13, 1963 in Bethlehem , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1923 and 1929 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives twice .

Career

Everett Kent attended the public schools in his home country and then worked as a machinist and newspaper reporter. He also worked at times as a teacher at the Roosevelt School in Bangor . After studying law at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and being admitted to the bar in 1911, he began to practice this profession in Bangor. He also became a legal advisor to several cities in his homeland. From 1912 to 1915 he also served as legal counsel to prison inspectors in Northampton County. From 1920 to 1923 he served as the district attorney in Northampton County. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the 1922 congressional election , Kent was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 30th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican Melville Clyde Kelly on March 4, 1923 . Since he was not confirmed in 1924, he could initially only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1925 . In the elections of 1926 he was re-elected to Congress in the 30th district of his state, where he replaced William R. Coyle on March 4, 1927 , who had been his successor two years earlier. In 1928 he was not re-elected and therefore had to leave Congress on March 3, 1929.

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Kent worked as a lawyer again. Between 1936 and 1956 he participated as a delegate at all Democratic National Conventions . From 1933 to 1943 he was legal advisor to the county controller in Northampton County. Everett Kent died in Bethlehem on October 13, 1963 and was buried in Bangor.
