Everhard Alerdinck (* 1598 in Münster ; † May 11, 1658 ibid) was a German painter . His works include work on buildings, guard houses and gates. His best-known work is the so-called Alerdinck Plan , a historical city view of Münster from 1636, which is one of the most artistically valuable representations of a city.

Life

Everhard Alerdinck was the third son of the notary Henrich Alerdinck. On January 1, 1611, at the age of about twelve, he began training as a painter with Nicolas tom Ring in Münster. From 1617 he was trained at the Paulinum grammar school , which was part of the Jesuit college . After completing his training, he dealt with the geometry of landscapes and cities. Because of this ability, on January 15, 1636, he was commissioned by the Münster City Council to appraise and measure gardens and lands.

In addition to his training at Nicolas tom Ring, Alerdinck also worked for the cartographer Johannes Gigas . Among other things, he helped him in 1621 with the design of the Paulus card . In the summer of 1622 he married Anna tom Ring, the widow of his late teacher Nicolas tom Ring. Also in 1622 the Guild of Painters in Münster accepted Alerdinck as a master. In 1635 he was elected Gildemeister and held this office until 1644 and again between 1651 and 1657.

Shortly after his appointment as Gildemeister, his most famous work, which began in 1634, was created in 1636 with the title Monasterium Westphaliae metropolis , also known as the Alerdinck Plan or Vogelschauplan von Münster , a geometrically and perspective almost realistic map of his hometown Münster. The decorations and embellishments on the gable of the historic town hall from 1646 on the occasion of the negotiations for the Peace of Westphalia and work on the Münster Zwinger also come from Alerdinck . Little is known about his other work, however.
