Evert Jan Thomassen à Thuessink

Evert Jan Thomassen à Thuessink (born August 6, 1762 in Zwolle ; † June 3, 1832 in Groningen ) was a professor of medicine in Groningen, son of David Thomassen à Thuessink (Mayor of Zwolle) and Maria Jacoba Keizer.

Life

He first studied in Haderwijk before he enrolled on September 9, 1778 at the Academic Gymnasium Lingen as a student in law and medicine. From September 21, 1780 he studied at the University of Leiden . In 1794 he became a professor of medicine in Groningen and taught a. a. Pathology , clinical and forensic medicine . He particularly specialized in infectious diseases and ophthalmology . In 1797 he gave the first impetus for the establishment of the University Hospital (Nosocomium Academicum) in Groningen, today University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). From 1787 he was married to Adriana Catharina de Blanche (1767-1832).

In 1806 he was elected a foreign member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences .
