Evert Strobos (born February 12, 1943 in Hengelo , Netherlands ) is a Dutch sculptor who mostly works in steel.

life and work

Evert Strobos received his training at the Academy for Art and Industry in Enschede and at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf . Strobos, who lives and works in Hengelo, often performs his works in series. Its most frequently used material is corten steel , which in the air gets a rust-colored surface, but does not rust in depth. Corten steel is widely used by sculptors.

Corten steel project

palisade

A Strobos project from 1971 consists of 24 identical and 8-meter-long elements made of Corten steel that are flat at the top and doubled at the bottom. The elements are set up in a flat circle with a length of 980 cm. This art project was first shown in the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), followed by Groningen , Enschede and Dordrecht . The project was rebuilt in 1973 and was given a permanent place in the sculpture park of the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo under the new name: "Palisade". This palisade was replaced in 1991 by a more durable version made of 4 cm thick steel parts.

"Attraction" (Dutch "Bezienswaardigheid") in Zeewolde is also one of the works by Strobos, which consist of monumental "signs" that mark a place in the landscape. The seven elements that Strobos placed in an irregular circle stand out as silhouettes against the sky. Due to their size, they occupy a large area and, with their flat shape, seem to cut through space. The association with prehistoric monuments is not absurd in the sculpture group.
