Everything 2 (also abbreviated as E 2 ) is an online community that consists of linked material from users . E2 is moderated for quality, but has no limitation on the topic. The contributions on E2 have a wide spectrum with encyclopedic articles, diary entries , humor and the like.

history

The predecessor of E2 was a similar database called Everything (later also known as Everything1 or E1 for short ), which was started in March 1998 by Nathan Oostendorp. Initially, this site was closely related to Slashdot . E2's software offers many more functions, and so all data from E1 has been integrated into E2 twice (in November 1999 and in January 2000). The E2 servers were in server housing operation with those from Slashdot, which resulted in the servers going offline abruptly when OSDN bought Slashdot. After E2 went down from November through December, E2 was hosted by the University of Michigan . In February 2007, the servers moved to nearby Michigan State University .

E2 is operated by Blockstackers Intergalactic, but does not make any profit according to its own statements. Until mid-2007, E2 accepted donations in the form of money or hardware . Some of the administrators are related to block stackers and some are not. The site is not " democratic ", but all user rights are set by the administrators without consultation with the community.

Guidelines

Some E2 leaders see it as a release that authors can contribute to by submitting content. Although Everything2 does not seek to be an encyclopedia , much factual content has already been published in Everything2.

The rules say E2 is not a bulletin board . Contributions that are written in response to other contributions or that represent small additions or that are not independent contributions for other reasons are not welcome. Everything2 is not a wiki and so there is no direct route for authors who have not written the article to edit it.

Dealing with copyrights

The copyright of a contribution remains with the author of the content. The only rule that concerns copyright law gives the site the right to publish. Authors reserve their right to publish the work under a free license such as Creative Commons or GNU on other platforms or to have their contribution deleted later.

compensation

E2's compensation system is similar to that of role-playing games . Users can earn experience points ( XP ) for higher levels or convertible currency ("GP"). Five experience points correspond to one contribution. Users with more than 10 posts and over 500 points can rate posts positively or negatively. The author receives additional points through positive reviews.

software

E2 is the open source - Engine Everything Engine , a Perl operated -based system. Data in a MySQL - database stored.
