Evgueni Chevelevitch ( Russian Евгений Исаакович Шевелевич / Evgeni Isaakowitsch Shevelevich; born October 26, 1953 ) is a German chess player .

Life

During his studies Chevelevitch won with the Rostov Oblast team at the end of 1972 the 8th Championship of the Russian SFSR in Rostov-on-Don . After that he was able to show notable successes , especially in correspondence chess . He was a shared winner at the 1st championship of the Central Chess Club of the USSR . At the next tournament, which was held in 1979–1980, he shared the 2nd – 3rd. Space. In the XVII. Championship of the Soviet Union (1st league, 1986-1988) he finished fifth with 10.5 points out of 16. Because of his good performance, he was named the Master of Sports of the USSR in 1988 . In the XVIII. Championship of the Soviet Union (1st division) he was divided first. From the end of the 1980s he played close chess in some important tournaments, such as the Russian team championship in 1992 in Podolsk and the Bondarewski memorial tournament (open section) in 1993 in Rostov-on-Don. His national rating was 2293 (January 1995).

In the 1990s Chevelevitch worked as a senior researcher at the Rostov-on-Don State University . He emigrated to Germany around 2000 and has been playing for the German Chess Federation since 2002 . He was first in group A in the preliminary round of the 1st German Chess Amateur Championship 2002 in Hamburg . In the same year he came in 14th at the Hamburg International Individual Championship. At the HSK IM tournament in January 2005 he shared fourth place with Jens Ove Fries Nielsen and Michael Kopylov . Since the FIDE meeting in Athens (May – June 2008) he has held the title of International Master . He achieved the norms for this in the 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons of the 2nd Bundesliga North and at the German Individual Championship 2008 in Bad Wörishofen . In 2007 he shared third place with Ľubomír Ftáčnik at the Hamburg International Individual Championship. At the London Chess Classic 2011 (FIDE Open) he was eliminated early with 4.5 points out of 6. He plays club chess for Hamburger SK .

His highest rating was 2466 in April 2008.
