Evil Genius is a computer game released in 2004 in which the player pursues the goal of using malicious actions to accumulate wealth and gain world domination. The role of the player is based on that of the opponents of James Bond and Austin Powers . The player plans his actions from an underground center, which he can gradually expand. New objects can also be researched and better servants trained. These have a needs system similar to that found in The Sims . With increasing popularity, particularly strong henchmen join the player.

The game was developed by Elixir under the direction of Demis Hassabis and distributed by Sierra and Vivendi Universal .

The unusual gameplay and the unusual comic graphics earned the game good ratings. Above all, the controls, which require a relatively long training period, and minor errors in the game process that negatively influenced the game quality were criticized, but were largely eliminated with the first patch.

successor

A game called Evil Genius 2 was announced in the year of release, but development was discontinued.

Vivendi Games later sold the rights to Evil Genius to the British developer Rebellion . Rebellion is now offering the game as a download via the online platforms GOG.com and Steam . In the context of E3 2017, Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley officially confirmed the development of a successor for the PC and possibly other platforms. However, an exact date for the publication has not yet been given.

During E3 2019 , the successor called Evil Genius 2: World Domination was announced. It should appear in 2020 and be distributed via the online platform Steam. A change to the predecessor that has already been published is the possibility of building the base over several levels (in the first part this is only possible on one level).
