Evgenia Fakinou

Evgenia Fakinou (also Evjenia Fakinu, Greek Ευγενία Φακίνου , born June 8, 1945 in Alexandria ) is a Greek writer.

Life

Fakinou grew up in Athens . Her education includes graphic arts and tour guidance. For several years she worked as a draftsman for various magazine publishers, and as an author and illustrator of numerous children's books. In 1976 her puppet theater play Blechstadt ( Ντενεκεδούπολη ) premiered , which is still very popular with children and is performed in schools.

Her first novel Sternenbindende ( Αστραδενή , 1982) was very successful and has been translated into numerous languages, including German. It depicts internal migration from the island of Symi to Athens, which has resulted in a personal catastrophe, from the perspective of a child.

Fakinou lives in Athens .

Awards

In 2006 the author was awarded the “First Readers Prize” (Βραβείο Αναγνωστών) of the National Book Center Skai 100.3 for her novel “Η μέθοδος της Ορλεάνης”.

In 2008 she received the state “First Prize for Storytelling” (Κρατικό Βραβείο Διηγήματος) for her stories “Φιλοδοξίες κήπου”.
