Evoked is a North Rhine-Westphalian death metal band that was founded in 2013.
history
The band was founded in 2013 after guitarist and singer Simon Alexander "Bonesaw" Wind convinced the drummer Artilleratör to do so at a party. In the same year, Go Fuck Yourself Productions released a first demo under the name Return of the Dead , which was followed by the split release 13 with Turbocharged , Violentor and Obscyria on the same label the following year and the EP Lifeless Allurement in 2016 . After moving to FDA Records in 2016, the debut album Ravenous Compulsion was released in 2019 . In their career, the band has performed with groups such as Sulfur Aeon and Root , among others .
style
Rock Hard's Mandy Malon described Lifeless Allurement's music as "real, pure, raw old-school Death that's so dirty, destructive and wild that it feels like two possessed are beating the listener". Particularly characteristic are also an "aggressive streak, the sick vocals and the sense for a grandiose mixture of rhythmic variance, bad vs. snotty riffs and the absolute morbid-angel- disgust-factor of the eighties". In a later edition, Patrick Schmidt reviewed Ravenous Compulsion and also assigned the album to classic Death Metal. He heard similarities to early Pestilence and Death and especially the vocals reminded of Martin van Drunen's . The riffs have a driving character. One issue later, Sebastian Schilling wrote that the band played Death Metal in the style of Autopsy , Pestilence and early Swedish genre representatives. However, the group sounds independent. In an interview with him, Simon Alexander "Bonesaw" Wind stated that the band is not only influenced by death metal groups like Morgoth , Death and Pestilence, but also by thrash metal bands like Sepultura , Demolition Hammer and Kreator . Comparisons to Swedish groups have come up several times, but not intended, as they tend to pursue a generally European sound. Vocally, instead of growling, you consciously use vocals in the style of Martin van Drunen and John Tardy . Daniel Müller from crossfire-metal.de also reviewed the album and described it as a mixture of asphyx and old pestilence. He also noticed vocal parallels to Martin van Drunen. The drumming is reminiscent of that of the former Asphyx drummer Bob Bagchus, who "renounces technical finesse and many breaks ".
