action
Daniel Glass is a notorious liar and a bad relationship partner who mainly sits in the booth, smokes and plays video games. When he was told by his new doctor, Dr. Iain Glennis was initially diagnosed with esophageal cancer , but a few days later when he received the message that it was wrong and that he was healthy, he decided not to inform his fellow human beings, but instead to pretend that he had cancer, as this would benefit his relationship and surrendered to work at We Cover health insurance . The incompetent doctor willingly allows himself to be harnessed for this charade because he cannot afford to make any further missteps.
Daniel's best friend Ash, who was having an affair with Daniel's friend Becca, appears to die in Daniel's garden seconds after discovering the truth. Glennis stages a hit-and-run accident, but when Ash is found, he ends up in the intensive care unit, where he is initially with the locked-in syndrome and finally dies at the end of the first season. Suddenly Daniel's other friend Will is at the door, his video game colleague from America, whom he told the truth about the false cancer and about Ash's fall in the chat. Will blackmails Daniel and demands money that Glennis raises through an illegal drug sale, but he dies at the hands of Daniel's new boss, Katerina West, after he has revealed the truth about Daniel's alleged illness.
Officer Hayward, who is investigating Ash, first suspects that he was killed by Russian spies, then that Daniel and Glennis were involved in his death and that they are involved in a drug ring. After he was withdrawn from the case and further investigated privately, he is undercover as a drug buyer when Daniel and Glennis are threatened by a drug dealer when the police raid the place.

background
At the end of May 2016, Sky ordered the comedy series Sick Note, written by Nat Saunders and James Serafinowicz, starring Rupert Grint and Nick Frost . It was produced by King Bert and directed by BAFTA- winning director Matt Lipsey. Even before the first season was broadcast, the series was extended by a second in April 2017 and Lindsay Lohan was cast in a new leading role in June . It is her first major serial role and marked the beginning of a return to business.
In the United Kingdom, the first season appeared on Sky One from November 7, 2017 and the second from July 26, 2018. Internationally, both appeared in full on Netflix on November 23, 2018 .
reception
Rupert Hawksley, who rates two out of five stars, wrote for the London Telegraph after the first episode that the show's premise was not bad and had a lot of comic potential, but the problem was the script, which the cast was wasted on: "Every time when things start to get going, crashing a slamming forming large brick through the screen in the form of an ill-advised invasion or forced plot points "over and destroyed the moment. the entire first season writes Greg Wheeler of Review Geek , who with rated seven out of ten points, the series is not aimed at everyone, but for a special market, which makes it difficult to sell the humor to the masses. He describes the humor as "deliciously dark, full of dry wit and merciless." Anyone who is a fan of such humor could not go wrong with the series.
For the second season, Jack O'keefe praises Lindsay Lohan's figure and portrayal compared to her early film roles for the American women's magazine Bustle . The series role allows her to stretch other comedic muscles and instead of reacting to the absurd things around her as the main character, to be absurd herself. It is a welcome reminder of why the audience originally fell in love with her: because she is really funny. Sick Note could therefore mark the beginning of a "Loan renaissance". LaToya Ferguson for the American magazine Paste has given both seasons together negative reviews. The series is "incredibly uneven, and not that funny at all, which disappoints in view of the talent in front of and behind the camera." In the series, written by two men, she sees a problem for women that Katerina almost, but not really, solves because everyone Women's roles are either scratching brushes or simplistic brushes. Daniel and Glennis are not thought leaders either, but because they always get away with their lies at the last second, they are antiheroes. Daniel is a passive, lazy character and Glennis is just an idiot, while Daniel Rigby as Hayward would take the focus from Grint and Frost and steal the show.
In Germany, Kevin Hennings is disappointed for DWDL.de by the lack of humor. "While a sitcom usually captivates with entertaining entertainment and making sure that twenty minutes don't feel long at all," Sick Note "just manages to to reveal the attempted joke. But the punch line is always sobering. [...] What could come across as funny, well written, seems almost unreservedly terrible in “Sick Note”. The comedy, which was once produced by Sky One, lacks any British humor, simply all humor. So what remains is a shell of the series that only exudes an uncomfortable feeling of sympathy. "Oliver Armknecht from film-rezensions.de criticizes the" more trivial silliness jokes that occur in addition to the black humor, which should rather find their place in the children's program , "As well as the slower pace for a sitcom, but sees the first season overall as" a very humorous affair, especially because the actors proceed without consideration for losses, "and awards seven out of ten points.
