Blasius studied at the Technical University of Berlin , where he received his doctorate in 1951 with Jean D'Ans and in 1958 he completed his habilitation in analytical and inorganic chemistry with Gerhart Jander . In 1965 he became a professor for analytical chemistry at Saarland University .

He dealt with the application of chromatographic methods in analytical chemistry and preparative inorganic chemistry (also using crown ethers ), the use of radioactive elements in analysis and the chemistry of the reactor fuel cycle.

He is co-author of two standard textbooks with Gerhart Jander on analytical inorganic chemistry.
