Johannes Steckner

Johannes Steckner (born March 27, 1966 ) is a German chess player . He is an international master in correspondence chess and a FIDE master in local chess .

Correspondence chess

1986/89 Johannes Steckner became the 10th German correspondence chess junior champion. In 1994 he was awarded the title of International Master by the International Correspondence Chess Federation (ICCF). In the semifinals of the World Correspondence Chess Championship in 1991/97 he was second behind Knut Herschel , in the ¾-final 1995/2002, which was won by Rudolf Ševeček , he was sixth and thus missed the entry into the final.

His highest rating in correspondence chess was 2509 in the 1/2001 evaluation. Since then he has been inactive in correspondence chess.

Close chess

He played youth chess for Hamburger SK , with whom he became German youth team champion in 1982, was later a regular player in the second team and also won his only appearance in the 1st Bundesliga in the 1991/92 season . For the Stuttgart Chess Friends in 1879 he played in the 2nd Bundesliga South at the turn of the millennium , after which he played for the Swabian chess club Ehningen .

In the Swiss National League A he played for the chess company Winterthur (from 2000 to 2008) and in the Swiss 1st Bundesliga for the ASK Winterthur . As of 2019, he is a passive member of the Zürcher Kantonalbank chess team .

His highest Elo rating in close chess was 2355 in July 1986. This was also his first Elo rating. He has held the title of FIDE Master since 1990.
