Ewald Eichhorn

Ewald Eichhorn (born August 28, 1929 in Oberneubrunn ) is a former German police officer. He was Deputy Minister of the Interior of the GDR .

Life

The son of a glassmaker completed a commercial apprenticeship after attending primary school and initially worked in the profession. In 1946 he became a member of the FDJ and in 1950 the SED . In 1950 he became a member of the German People's Police (DVP). He initially performed duty in Hildburghausen and then went to Berlin as a management instructor in the HR department of the DVP headquarters. From 1956 to 1959 he worked in the same function in the administration of the penal system and from 1959 to 1961 as a working group leader in the main management department of the DVP headquarters. He completed his studies at the party college of the CPSU in Moscow from 1961 to 1964 with a degree in social science . He then acted as secretary until 1967 and from 1967 to 1969 as first secretary of the SED district leadership of the MdI (successor to Franz Barrakling ), most recently as colonel of the VP. After further studies, this time at the Friedrich Engels Military Academy , he acquired the degree of a diploma in military science.

From 1971 to 1974 he was head of the political administration of the Ministry of the Interior (MdI) (successor to Erhard Helbig ). In 1973 he was appointed major general by Erich Honecker and in 1974 he was appointed 1st Deputy Minister of the Interior (successor to Herbert Grünstein ). He officially held this position until April 1977. Since 1976 he was represented because of a serious illness by Lieutenant General Rudolf Riss , who also replaced him as 2nd chairman of the Dynamo sports association . In 1978 he finally resigned from active police service.

Eichhorn lives in Zeuthen.
