Paul John Geoffrey Keating (born August 13, 1924 in Dublin , † September 16, 1980 ) was an Irish ambassador .

Life

Paul John Geoffrey Keating is the first child of Mary Mercedes Joyce and Joseph Hannon Keating. On June 2, 1952, he married Annie Teresa, the second daughter of Francis McGowan of Creevykeel Sligo, in New York City. Her children are Una (* 1953) and Geoffrey (* 1957). He received his bachelor's degree from Trinity College Dublin in 1946. From 1947 to 1948 he studied in Paris. In 1949 he joined the foreign service as third class legation secretary. In 1951 he was assigned to the Irish Mission at UN headquarters as Vice-Consul. In 1956 he was appointed Secretary of the Second Class. In 1956, 1957, 1958 and 1960 he was a member of the Irish delegations to the General Assemblies of the United Nations . In 1960 he was appointed Secretary of the First Class in Dublin. In 1962 he was transferred to the Embassy in London, where he was appointed Legation Councilor in 1964. In 1967 he was Master of Ceremonies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dublin. In 1968 he was ambassador to Lagos ( Nigeria ). From 1970 to 1972 he was ambassador in Bonn . From November 14, 1978 to September 16, 1980 he was the permanent representative of the Irish government at UN headquarters.
