Ewing Island is an icy and domed island with a diameter of 13 km and a height of up to 300 m off the Wilkins coast of the Palmerland on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 24 km northeast of Cape Collier .
Participants of the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition discovered them during an overflight on November 7, 1947. Expedition leader Finn Ronne named them after the US geophysicist Maurice Ewing (1906–1974) from Columbia University , who was involved in the development of the seismological program the research trip was helpful.
