Exeter is a city in Tulare County in the US state of California , United States .
The town's roots go back to a railway line built through the San Joaquin Valley in 1888 . DW Parkhurst, a representative of Southern Pacific Transportation , bought the land from settler John Firebaugh and established a settlement he named after his hometown of Exeter .
In October 1929 there was an uprising against the Filipino people in Exeter . A mob stormed a Filipino labor camp and burned it down. This racial unrest against the Filipino population spread along the west coast of the United States.
