The Roman Catholic Expositurkirche Spiss is located in the Austrian municipality of Spiss in Tyrol . The church, which is under the patronage of St. John the Baptist , belongs to the Prutz dean's office in the Innsbruck diocese . The church is a listed building .

history

A chapel was officially built in 1607. The Expositurkirche was built from 1777 to 1778 . After a fire, the apse was renewed in 1838.

architecture

The simple baroque church with a three-bay nave and a single-bay retracted choir with a round end has a barrel vault with stitch caps, a pilaster structure, arched windows and a rounded triumphal arch. The tower with arched sound windows and a pointed gable helmet stands in the north on the middle nave yoke. The west portal has pilasters and a canopy on the sides. The rococo stucco in the nave vault, on the triumphal arch and above the windows date from the construction period. The neo-baroque ornament painting in the choir dates from 1886. The baroque pictures in stucco medallions depicting the naming, sermon and beheading of John the Baptist were painted by Philipp Jakob Greil around 1778 .

Furnishing

The baroque high altar around 1778 with the statues of St. Elisabeth, Antonius, in the extract Maria Immaculata, shows the altarpiece John the Baptist by Alois Grissemann from 1839. The left side altar shows the picture Death of St. Martin, the right side altar the Saints Nicholas of Tolentino , Brigida, Eligius before Mariahilf, both from 1839.

The organ by Johann Caspar Humpel from the beginning of the 18th century with painted double doors with David and Cäcila was purchased in 1805, the work was changed in the 19th century by Andreas Mauracher and Josef Sies.
