Philipp Jakob Greil

Philipp Jakob Greil (born April 29, 1729 in Pfunds ; † October 4, 1787 ibid) was a Tyrolean baroque painter .

Life

Greil learned painting from Johann Zangerle in Fendels and from Franz Sumier in Munich . He first worked for a long time in Bavaria, where he created works for some monasteries and was awarded the title of electoral court painter . He returned to his home in Pfunds around 1765 and painted frescoes and altarpieces for churches in the Tyrolean Oberland . His frescoes show a strong and dynamic style that is reminiscent of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and Matthäus Günther .
