history

Today's parish church is a late Gothic church building from the late 15th century. The choir was officially built in 1497. The church was consecrated in 1516 . The interior of the church was baroque between 1760 and 1770 . During the interior renovation in 1967 and 1968, the people's altar and ambo were erected. In 1994 and 1995 the outer wall including the late Gothic tracery frieze was restored.

architecture

Exterior description

Outwardly, the church has a late Gothic character. On the wall of the choir is a painted tracery frieze . The nave is structured by triangular pilaster strips with finials and massive corner pillars. According to Gert Ammann, this points to the construction by the master builder Christian Frey . From the time the church was built, the fresco of St. Christopher still exists on the south side of the church. The mosaic above the Gothic west portal of the facade was created in 1906 and shows Saint Joseph . The mosaic was installed by Ludwig Pfefferle from Zirl .

Inside description

The interior is shaped by the Baroque style in the 1760s. The nave has four bays. The western yoke is completely taken up by the protruding, two-story organ loft. The choir has two bays and ends with a 3/8 end. It is separated from the nave by a round triumphal arch . The barrel vault with stitch caps is essentially Gothic, but was plastered in Baroque style in the course of the Baroque era. It rests on pillars with narrow pilasters and cornices. At the apex of the window frames you can see stucco shells and tendrils.

Ceiling frescoes

The vault is richly decorated with frescoes and decorative painting. This comes from the painter Philipp Jakob Greil from Pfunds . In addition to the ceiling painting, he also created the altarpieces and the paintings on the triumphal arch.

The large ceiling fresco above the choir shows the "triumph of Christianity". Between two kneeling angels is the IHS monogram, which stands for Christ. The personified continents Europe , Africa , Asia and America pay homage to this . The fall of the angels into hell is depicted on the lower edge of the fresco .
