Eyvind Wichmann
Eyvind Hugo Wichmann (born May 30, 1928 in Stockholm ; † February 16, 2019 in Berkeley ) was an American theoretical physicist .
Life
Wichmann studied in Finland (technical college, graduation 1950) and at Columbia University with a master's degree in 1953 and a doctorate in 1956. From 1955 to 1957 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study . In 1957 he became an Assistant Professor and in 1967 Professor of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley . In 1993 he retired.
He dealt with quantum field theory and quantum electrodynamics (both in concrete problems of particle physics and in Axiomatic QFT , in which he suggested a connection to Tomita-Takesaki theory in 1975 ) and was known as the author of the volume quantum physics in the Berkeley physics course.
He was a member of the Finnish Academy of Sciences . From 1961 to 1963 he was a Sloan Research Fellow . He was a fellow of the American Physical Society .
