Félia Litvinne (born October 11, 1860 in St. Petersburg , † October 12, 1936 in Paris ) was a soprano who was born in Tsarist Russia and mainly lives in Europe .

Life

Félia Litvinne was born under the name Françoise-Jeanne Schütz as the daughter of a Russian father and a French-Canadian mother from Quebec . She grew up multilingual and studied in Russia, Switzerland , Italy and Paris with Pauline Viardot and Victor Maurel, among others . Her vocal range allowed her roles as a mezzo-soprano , as well as a dramatic soprano and coloratura soprano . In 1883 she made her debut in Italy and started an international career.

She has appeared at major opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Paris Opera , La Scala in Milan , the Rome Opera , Theatro La Fenice , the Royal Opera House Covent Garden as well as in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Her last appearance was in Vichy in 1919 , after which she gave concerts until 1924.
